What's it about?

Rachel and Scott are getting married. They are also buying a house together – never the easiest of things to do at the same time. When the house price goes up, their plans for the dream wedding have to bedownsized to the local registry office. Rachel’s mother, however, has other ideas. What if the family could join forces and make it a wedding to be proud of?

With a marquee in the back garden, a hand-me-down dress, the pub band and two fully functioning Portaloos, surely the day will pass without a hitch?

The first new play in a decade from Chris Chibnall, the writer of ITV’s smash success Broadchurch, as well as Torchwood.

Synopsis
Rachel and Scott are getting married. They are buying a house together – never the easiest
of things to do at the same time. When the house price goes up, their plans for the dream
wedding have to be downsized to the local registry office.
Rachel’s mother, however has other ideas, a hand-me-down dress, the pub band and a fully
functioning Portaloo, surely the day will pass without a hitch?
Worst Wedding Ever was commissioned and first produced by Salisbury Playhouse in 2014.
The Cast
RACHEL – Late 20s, smart, funny, warm, decisive bordering on controlling.
LIZ – Rachel’s mum, 50s: strong, direct, adorable.
SCOTT – Late 20s/early 30s, city raised, not one of life’s multi-taskers.
MEL – 50s, careworn erring towards shambolic, beaten-down by life, but still trying. .
GRAHAM – Mid/late 30s, charismatic vicar. Modern bloke – hangs out at gigs when he
can.
ALISON – Early 30s, Rachel’s sister, wears the sort of figure-hugging, sexy clothes
you only buy when you’ve been dumped. Drinks more than she should.
MIKE – Thirty-something, Alison’s soon-to-be-ex husband and leader in the band.
ANDY – Thirties, scrawny… A bundle of energy, like he’s permanently conscious about
having something wrong and being caught out for it. All bravado, and worry –
